It all started 19 years ago when I was born, yes, I always knew that one day in my life I would learn French. The reason is simple; I was born wedged between two cultures, and in my veins runs French blood, inherited from my grandmother.
Unfortunately, over the years I didn’t get the chance to speak several languages. This is why, when I finished my preparation studies and before entering university, I decided to learn French for a year. Aside from having French citizenship, I think that language is very important in the world…
So I took the freedom to come to France to learn French, I have not been afraid of the distance. Although I had other Francophone countries close to my home country to learn French, it did not matter, I wanted to have the experience of French lifestyle. I began a long research for months, and ILA school turned out to be the most recommended.
I arrived at ILA school in September and I finished in June. I spent 9 months in the French school where I was greeted with open arms from day one. I started with a basic level and I have reached an advanced level. I left ILA French School very satisfied of my progress.
Concerning my accommodation, I chose to stay with a host family during my language stay, to practice French in everyday life and to be in relationship with people who speak only French at home.
My family was great and the house was located in one of the best areas of the city of Montpellier, I was only 15 minutes’ walk from the school. I felt safe, even at night. The most precious part of it all remains my host mother, who was very kind to me and to the other students staying at her house, she was funny and I had a great time with her.
Learn French in Montpellier
Before arriving in one of the best cities of France, I had to study all the options I had to come learn French. Aside from the fact that I am a very indecisive person by nature, I finally chose to study French in Montpellier for several reasons. For example, Montpellier is one of France’s sunniest cities, and there are 3 beaches all different from each other.
It is a city with a beautiful Mediterranean styled architecture, and the size of the city is good, everything can be done by foot and it is impossible to get lost. The city of Montpellier really is a city meant for students, and that’s fantastic!
Also, I was able to try the delicious gastronomy, there are lots of small restaurants, bars and cafes in the city centre of Montpellier and on Place de la Comédie. One of my favourite parks is the Peyrou Park, where I took walks with my friends. It’s very pleasant, and is located behind the water tower. From there, the view over the city is amazing.
Learning french in Montpellier is one of the best things I have ever done ! I met lots of people, mainly at school, who had different cultures and personalities, it enriched me greatly.
Moreover, the French school ILA offers excursions around Montpellier on weekends, and even during the week there are theme nights and activities organized by the school. This opened doors to new horizons!
I do not regret taking this decision! I will never forget my stay in Montpellier ILA school for all my life!
